SDUA Held the 2025 Academic Annual Conference of the Chinese Mathematical Society

The 2025 Academic Annual Conference of the Chinese Mathematical Society (CMS), organized by CMS and hosted by SDUA, opened in Binzhou on the morning of October 17th. The opening ceremony was attended by distinguished guests including: Yuan Yaxiang, vice president of the China Association for Science and Technology(CAST) and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS); Ling Wen, president of the Provincial Association for Science and Technology(PAST) and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE); Xi Nanhua, president of CMS and academician of CAS; Tian Gang, president of the Supervisory Committee of CMS and academician of CAS; Song Yongxiang, secretary of the Binzhou Municipal Committee of the CPC; Li Changhai, secretary of the Party Committee of SDUA, and Li Weinian, president of SDUA. Also present were several academicians such as Tang Tao, Li Jun, and Wang Xiaoyun, along with other relevant leaders from provincial and municipal authorities. SDUA served as the host institution for this esteemed event.

Yuan Yaxiang in his address acknowledged the recent achievements of CMS in academic exchanges and international cooperation. He called for upholding the spirit of scientists and supporting young mathematicians in dedicating themselves to research. Ling Wen expressed his hope that the annual conference would serve as an opportunity to explore the cultural value of Liu Hui’s mathematical legacy and provide intellectual support for high-quality development in Shandong. Xi Nanhua and Tian Gang emphasized the importance of advancing the development of mathematics, highlighting respectively CMS’s role as a bridge and the support provided by the Mathematics Tianyuan Fund for young talents. Song Yongxiang introduced Binzhou as the hometown of Liu Hui and stated that the city would continue to leverage mathematical thinking to drive technological innovation. Li Changhai noted that as the only aviation-themed university in Shandong, SDUA underscores the foundational role of mathematics in cultivating aviation talent and supporting scientific research innovation.

At the opening ceremony, Li Weinian and Academician Wang Xiaoyun jointly unveiled the plaque for Liu Hui College of our university. The college was established on the basis of the Liu Hui Mathematics Research Society, which was initiated and led by SDUA, aiming to further promote the application of interdisciplinary research between mathematics and aviation. Meanwhile, the winners of the 19th Hua Luogeng Prize for Mathematics, the 22nd Chen Shengshen Prize for Mathematics, and the 19th Zhong Jiaqing Prize for Mathematics were announced and awarded on site.

The three-day annual conference, held under the theme “Carrying Forward the Spirit of Mathematics, Empowering Innovation and Development,” will feature nearly 200 mathematicians presenting in parallel sessions across 10 fields, including algebra and number theory, and geometry and topology. Additionally, 12 academicians and experts will deliver 15 popular science lectures at various primary and secondary schools, as well as universities in Binzhou. The event was attended by members of the Board of Directors and the Supervisory Board of CMS, alongside representatives from universities and research institutions.
