Abstract: Photosynthesis, as the core physiological process sustaining life on Earth, has consistently been a research focus in the fields of agricultural science and plant physiology, particularly regarding the enhancement of its efficiency. Among the various influencing factors, the mechanism of light quality regulation on photosynthesis is of critical importance. Far-red light, characterized by its longer wavelength and lower energy within the visible light spectrum, demonstrates significant potential in activating plant Photosystem II (PSII), expanding the boundaries of light energy utilization, and breaking through traditional bottlenecks in photosynthetic efficiency. To facilitate the development of relevant disciplines of our university and broaden the academic horizons of our faculty and students, we are honored to invite Professor Qin Xiaochun from Jinan University to share cutting-edge research findings on the utilization of far-red light in photosynthesis. In this lecture, Professor Qin will focus on the spectral characteristics of far-red light and its synergistic effects with plant photosystems, particularly Photosystem I (PSI) and PSII. She will systematically elucidate the regulatory mechanisms of far-red light on photosynthetic pigment synthesis, photosystem assembly, and the efficiency of the photosynthetic electron transport chain. Emphasis will be placed on introducing recent research achievements in model plants and crops, including the impacts of far-red light supplementation on crop biomass accumulation, stress resistance enhancement, and quality optimization. Additionally, Professor Qin will discuss the application prospects and development directions of far-red light technology in scenarios such as smart agriculture, protected horticulture, and the cultivation of shade-tolerant crops, while addressing current research challenges.
