Recently, Department of Science and Technology of Shandong Province has successively announced the results of its 2026 provincial level research project approvals. To date, Shandong University of Aeronautics (SDUA) has been awarded a total of 33 research projects across various disciplines, among which 11 are major and key projects led or co-led by our faculty, marking new breakthroughs in project tier, project number, and total funding.

Among these major and key approved projects, Professor Xia Jiangbao from the Yellow River Delta Ecological Environment Research Center (School of Ecology and Environment) secured a project from Shandong Provincial Key Research and Development Program (Competitive Innovation Platform); Dr. Bi Zhimin from College of Automation and Electrical Engineering a project from Shandong Provincial Key Research and Development Program (Soft Science) as a key project; Associate Professor Sun Weitao from College of Astronautics and Mechanical Engineering a project from Shandong Provincial Natural Science Foundation Innovation and Development Joint Fund; and Professor Shang Xili from College of Chemical and Materials Engineering, together with Dr. Wang Qi from College of Biology and Pharmaceutical Engineering, each received projects from Yellow River Basin Collaborative Science and Technology Innovation Program (Technology Assistance and East-west Collaboration). In addition, SDUA also participated as a co-organizer in six other major and key projects.

These approvals are distinguished by their high level, wide variety, and broad disciplinary coverage, and they carry great significance. The projects span multiple dimensions, including fundamental research, technological development, and policy-oriented decision consulting. Through the natural science funding, they consolidate the theoretical foundations of our distinctive disciplines such as aeronautics, control, and ecology; through the key research and development programs, they facilitate the precise alignment of organised research with the major industrial demands of Shandong Province. Meanwhile, through the Yellow River Basin collaborative science and technology innovation projects, we have been able to deeply embed ourselves in the major national strategy for the Yellow River and broaden the landscape for east-west scientific and technological collaboration, thus furnishing robust support for the university’s pursuit of high-quality development.
